Online Waiting List Pre-Application

IMPORTANT NOTICE: If you are unable to print the online application, you may pick it up Tuesdays through Thursdays between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. ONLY at 807 South Duke Street, Durham, NC 27701.

Before you begin the application process, please have available the following items:

  • Names and dates of birth for all family members who will be living with you
  • Social security cards for all family members
  • Income of all family members

Please make sure you enter all information accurately and that your handwriting is legible. If a field doesn’t apply to your household, write n/a.

PLEASE WRITE IN BLACK OR BLUE INK ONLY.  If your pre-application is completed in ink that is not blue or black, you will be asked to complete a new pre-application.

Maintaining Your Status on the Waiting List

  • All applicants added to the waiting list are responsible for maintaining current contact information with the Housing Authority of the City of Durham.
    • If you are sent an invitation to an eligibility interview or any other correspondence and you do not respond within 14 calendar days from the date the letter was sent, OR your letter is returned undeliverable, your name will be removed from the waiting list.
    • If you have a change of address, phone number, income or family size, you must notify us within 14 calendar days of the change.
    • ALL CHANGES MUST BE MADE IN WRITING AND CAN BE SUBMITTED VIA MAIL (DHA, Attn: Damar/Morreene, 330 E. Main St, Durham, NC 27701).  CHANGES CAN ALSO BE SUBMITTED IN PERSON AT THIS ADDRESS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  No changes will be taken over the phone. Please include the last 4 digits of your social security number on all correspondence.

Eligibility

  • Families with income at the time of admission must not exceed 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI) for the family size, as established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  The 60% AMI can be found here: https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/mtsp.html.  Income is based on total GROSS household income.
  • Applicant and all adult members of the family must pass a criminal background check.
  • Any household member that is subject to a lifetime registration requirement as a sex offender in any state is ineligible for housing at Damar Court and/or Morreene Road.
  • Applicant and all household members must provide documentation of social security numbers.  All household members age 18 years and older must provide valid photo identification.
  • Applicant and all household members must be U.S. Citizens or have eligible immigration status to be eligible for housing assistance.
  • Applicant or any household member who currently owes rent to any housing provider will not be offered assistance until the outstanding balance is paid in full.
