Update on DHA's COVID-19 Response

The Durham Housing Authority is committed to helping our families and communities. As a Public Housing Authority, we will embrace a phased approach to resuming operations on our properties that focuses on the health and safety of our organization, while continuing to pursue our core mission to develop, own, manage and contribute to diverse communities of choice. We are taking guidance from the CDC to help prevent the spread of germs and infection. Out of an abundance of caution we have implemented the following procedures effective Monday, June 29, 2020:
 All Committee and Board meetings will continue to be held monthly via ZOOM
 Maintenance will continue performing emergency work orders
 Individuals will be seen by pre-scheduled appointment only
 When entering a DHA facility, individuals will be required to continue taking the precautionary measures, including:
     1. Wearing a face cover/mask
     2. Temperature checks
If you are scheduled for an appointment and are not feeling well, please contact the person that you are scheduled to meet directly to reschedule. Public Housing residents should conduct all business by contacting your property management office. Each management site telephone number can be found below. Housing Choice Voucher participants reporting income, certifications, or other changes may continue to provide required documents via email, fax, or US Mail.

The Durham Housing Authority is monitoring information provided by the Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as concerns grow over the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  We are taking extra measures and asking residents and visitors to call or email rather than visit our offices in person. The following actions are in place to help keep our residents and staff safe:

Staying Home if Ill

• DHA has instructed all staff who are ill, or have an ill family member, not to come to work until they have been symptom-free for at least three days.

Social Distancing

• DHA is reducing person-to-person contact by asking staff whose jobs allow them to perform their work online, to work from home.

• Staggered start times are offered to staff to reduce travel congestion.

• DHA is postponing non-essential meetings and encouraging staff to conduct meetings as much as possible by telephone or online.

• DHA is asking residents to conduct business with DHA by phone, email or the website www.durhamhousingauthority.org.

• DHA is ensuring adequate staffing to respond to an increase in residents who contact us by phone, email or our website.  Residents who wish can call or email their property manager, or can call the main number, 919-683-1551.

• DHA has instructed staff on additional sanitation practices to ensure they are not transferring viruses to themselves or others.

• DHA is now cleaning common areas of buildings at least daily, sanitizing door handles, railings, bathrooms, elevator buttons and other frequently touched surfaces.

Meeting Cancellation

• DHA’s March 25, 2020 Board meeting has been cancelled.

If you have a scheduled meeting with a DHA team member which is not covered through our resident or owner portals, and you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms, we encourage you to contact staff by phone and/or email.

General inquiries can be directed to the main office at (919) 683-1551.  HCVP and Public Housing forms and policies are provided on DHA’s website, www.durhamhousingauthority.org.  Please utilize this website in lieu of visiting the main office when possible.

Residents are asked to notify staff of a suspected illness in the event that a home visit or repair is anticipated. Individuals who have scheduled meetings or appointments can be rescheduled for a later date if they are showing signs of illness. In order to be rescheduled, you must contact the appropriate staff by phone or email to alert them of your situation.

DHA is taking the situation very seriously and will continue to monitor developments. We will adjust our operations further as needed and will keep you informed of any additional changes we may make to protect our residents and staff.
