Under general supervision of the Director of Housing Operations, this full-time non-exempt position performs a variety of skilled electrical maintenance work at Durham Housing Authority sites. Work involves install, modify and upgrade new and existing electrical and electronic systems, component parts and other related electrical equipment in commercial and residential properties. Inspect and certify that work is in compliance with HUD, state and local electrical codes. Make recommendations on the condition and safety of electrical/electronic equipment and the procurement of parts. Instruct tenants on the proper use of electrical equipment. Create required reports such as maintenance work orders and injury/accident reports.
Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent, and vocational/technical training in electrical work plus 5 years of progressively responsible electrical experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid North Carolina Electrical Contractor, Environmental Protection Agency Refrigerant Universal Certification required.
Able to work independently with strong work ethic and positive attitude, respectful with staff, residents and the public. Computer skills required include: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet. Physical dexterity with ability to climb and exert of up to 25 pounds of force and an occasional exertion of up to 100 pounds of force. Work in inclement weather, occasional unsanitary condition in units and work at heights from ladder above six (6) foot elevation.
