Durham Housing Authority and Coronavirus

DURHAM, NC - The Durham Housing Authority is monitoring information provided by the Department of Health and Human Service (DHHS) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) as concerns grow over the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). We are taking extra measures and asking residents and visitors to call or email rather than visit our offices in-person.

The following actions are in place to help keep our residents and staff safe:

Staying Home if Ill

  • DHA has instructed all staff who are ill, or have an ill family member, not to come to work until they have been symptom-free for at least three days.

Social Distancing

  • DHA is reducing person-to-person contact by asking staff whose jobs allow them to perform their work online, to work from home.
  • Staggered start times are offered to staff to reduce travel congestion.
  • DHA is postponing non-essential meetings and encouraging staff to conduct meetings as much as possible by telephone or online.
  • DHA is asking residents to conduct business with DHA by phone, email or the website DurhamHousingAuthority.org.
  • DHA is ensuring adequate staffing to respond to an increase in residents who contact us by phone, email or our website. Residents who wish can call or email their property manager, or can call the main number, 919.683.1551.

Sanitation

  • DHA has instructed staff on additional sanitation practices to ensure they are not transferring viruses to themselves or others.
  • DHA is now cleaning common areas of buildings at least daily, sanitizing door handles, railings, bathrooms, elevator buttons and other frequently touched surfaces.

Meeting Cancellation

  • DHA's March 25, 2020 Board meeting has been cancelled.

If you have a scheduled meeting with a DHA team member which is not covered through our resident or owner portals and you are exhibiting flu-like symptoms, we encourage you to contact staff by phone and/or email.

General inquiries can be directed to the main office at 919.683.1551. HCVP and Public Housing forms and policies are provided on DHA's website, DurhamHousingAuthority.org. Please utilize this website in lieu of visiting the main office when possible.

Residents are asked to notify staff of a suspected illness in the event that a home visit or repair is anticipated. Individuals who have scheduled meetings or appointments can be rescheduled for a later date if they are showing signs of illness. In order to be rescheduled, you must contact the appropriate staff by phone or email to alert them of your situation.

DHA is taking the situation very seriously and will continue to monitor developments. We will adjust our operations further as needed and will keep you informed of any additional changes we may make to protect our residents and staff.
