Disability Rights and Reasonable Accommodation Information
The Durham Housing Authority (DHA) is committed to providing equal housing opportunities and access to programs, services, and activities for individuals with disabilities.

Your Rights
Federal laws, including the Fair Housing Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), prohibit discrimination based on disability.

If you have a disability, you may request a reasonable accommodation or reasonable modification when necessary to have equal access to DHA housing, programs, services, or activities.

What Is a Disability?
A disability may include a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities. Disabilities may be visible or non-visible.

How to Request a Reasonable Accommodation or Modification
Residents/Participants may request a reasonable accommodation or modification verbally or in writing through the Property Management Office, DHA staff, or the designated contacts below:

Non-Retaliation
DHA will not retaliate against any applicant or resident for requesting a reasonable accommodation or modification or for exercising rights protected under federal fair housing and disability laws.

Questions or Complaints
If you believe you have experienced retaliation or discrimination, you may contact the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, or the Durham Human Relations Commission (DHRC).
