DHA CEO Letter to Residents

Dear DHA Residents,

Greetings from the desk of DHA's Chief Executive Officer (CEO)! As the recently appointed Interim CEO, I wanted to take a moment to express my appreciation to you as a community member for your support during this transition. With your support and that of the DHA Board of Commissioners and staff, we have taken multiple steps towards providing better service.

I have had the pleasure of meeting many of you at community meetings in my former role as the Director of Real Estate Development over the past 5 years. I will continue to lead the Real Estate Development team as we undertake projects with our Choice Neighborhoods Initiative (CNI), Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) and the Capital Improvement Program (Public Housing). The old Liberty and 519 E. Main St. site is almost gone, replaced with new residential options that are ready for former residents to move back into as soon as of this month. Forest Hill Heights and Fayette Place are scheduled for redevelopment starting Fall 2025. We are also in the planning stages for the redevelopment of McDougald Terrace and looking at options to renovate many others.

Millions of dollars are currently being spent on the DHA housing portfolio, especially Public Housing. New improvements range from new doors, windows and siding to new appliances, flooring, painting, and HVAC upgrades. However, to ensure we are succeeding at providing safe and secure living experiences, we're asking for your continued support and commitment. Physical improvements alone will not make our communities safe. If you see something, we need you to say something. To say something is to report it to the authorities. In addition, we need you to be responsible neighbors and residents by adhering to your lease. Please pay your rent in a timely manner, keep your unit clean, control the behavior of your guests, and don't remove your smoke detectors. These simple steps will greatly improve your community. Breaking these rules could lead to lease violations, fines, and eviction. It's critical that everyone pays their rent and promotes the safety of our families, neighbors, and community members. DHA understands its role in achieving a more desirable living environment for our community members. We need you as community members to assist us and claim your roles as responsible residents and neighbors.

If you are facing financial challenges with your rent or would like to report concerns regarding residents (or their guests) who pose safety concerns, please contact your management office. Thank you for your time and attention to these important matters as we remain committed to serving you well.

Sincerely,

Anthony C. Snell
Interim CEO
