Safety Matters May Edition
Stay Safe. Stay Aware. Stay Prepared.
With warmer weather here, it's important for residents and staff to stay mindful of safety practices in and around our communities. These May safety tips are designed to help prevent accidents, prepare for seasonal changes, and keep everyone safe.
Fire Safety - It's Grilling Season!
- Grill only outdoors and keep at least 10 feet from buildings or structures.
- Never leave grills unattended.
- Keep a water spray bottle and fire extinguisher nearby.
- Do not dump hot coals; allow them to cool fully before disposal in a metal container.
Storm Preparedness!
- Secure outdoor items and keep emergency kits stocked (flashlights, batteries, water).
- Avoid using electrical appliances during storms.
- Report storm damage to property management promptly.
Pedestrian & Bike Safety!
- Be alert, use crosswalks, and wear visible clothing, especially in the evenings.
- Drivers: slow down in residential areas and watch for children.
Pool & Water Safety!
- Never leave children unattended near pools or water features
- Follow posted pool rules and report unsafe conditions.
Crime Prevention - "If You See Something, Say Something!"
- Report suspicious activity to law enforcement first, then your property manager.
- Keep doors/windows locked; do not allow unknown individuals inside.
Heat Awareness!
- Stay hydrated and take breaks when outdoors.
- Know the signs of heat exhaustion: dizziness, headache, heavy sweating, nausea.
Spring Cleaning Safety!
- Lift properly, bend knees, and keep your back straight.
- Dispose of chemicals safely; avoid overloading trash areas.
