October Resident Safety Tips
Safety Matters - October Edition
Awareness. Safety. Strength.
Domestic Violence & Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October reminds us that safety means protecting our homes, our health, and each other. Let's stand together for awareness, prevention, and community care across DHA properties.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
- If you see or hear something concerning, call 911 immediately.
- For help: DCRC (919-403-6562) | National DV Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE (7233)).
- Show support-wear purple throughout October.
- Encourage kindness, respect, and awareness in your community.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
- Early detection saves lives-remind a friend, schedule your check.
- Get your yearly mammogram or ask your doctor for screening options.
- Do monthly self-exams and know what's normal for your body.
- Support survivors and wear pink proudly.
- Info: Durham County Public Health (919-560-7600).
Fire, Fall & Halloween Safety
- Test smoke alarms and replace batteries.
- Use LED candles in decorations; keep heaters and décor away from flammables.
- Drivers: slow down-kids will be out trick-or-treating.
- Always check candy before eating.
Community Awareness & Preparedness
- Shorter days mean earlier darkness-walk in pairs and stay visible.
- Report broken lights or suspicious activity to RSO or Property Management.
- Check heaters before the first cold snap.
- Keep flashlights, batteries, and water ready for emergencies.
Stay Aware. Stay Empowered. Stay Safe.
Together, we build a stronger, safer DHA community.
